The mission of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation is to promote lifelong learning. This is accomplished by securing charitable contributions, gifts and endowed funds to award scholarships, fellowships and grants.

A former EAF Scholarship recipient, Miss Bonner attends Tuskegee University and holds a 3.9 GPA majoring in Environmental Science. She is a member of the university’s TItle IX and is responsible for reviewing it’s policy on an ongoing basis. She is a member of the Pre-Law Society and a volunteer with the Southern Christian Leadership Foundation. Elyse believes every community regardless of race, color, or socioeconomic status should have equal representation in decisions regarding their health and environment. She plans to pursue her master’s and doctorate degrees. Her ultimate career goal is to be an environmental lawyer. The EAF scholarship has helped to finance her undergraduate degree. She will go on to make a difference and help reform environmental legislation within our government.
ELYSE BONNER
Miss Hawkins is a sophomore with a 3.6 GPA attending Howard University. Majoring in Business with a concentration in supply chain management. Kianna’s personal goal is to establish a non-profit organization that will introduce high school minority youth to supply chain management. Obtaining the AKA EAF scholarship reduced her financial burden and allowed Kianna more opportunities to make the greatest impact and reach her full potential.

Our History
The Educational Advancement Foundation was founded in 1980 by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an organization with a rich and distinguished history of service that spans nearly a century.

1980
CONCEPTION
Constance Holland conceives the idea of a foundation and shares that vision with her sister, Dr. Barbara Phillips, president of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, who sets in motion the mechanisms to move the concept to reality.
EAF IS FOUNDED
At its national convention, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority appropriates $10K in seed money for the establishment of the Educational Advancement Foundation.
1984
SALUTE TO EXCELLENCE
The Foundation holds its first “Salute to Excellence” luncheon to honor supporters and highlights EAF’s work in the area of lifelong learning.
1988
FIRST SCHOLARSHIPS
EAF awards its first scholarships ($10,000 to 14 students). Since then, more than 6,000 students have benefited from our scholarship programs.
1991
COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE AWARDS
Community organizations receive the first mini-grants to support local community service projects. More than $200,000 has been awarded since.
1997
$1M CAPITALIZATION GOAL
The Foundation reaches its initial $1M capitalization goal, a milestone that ensures that the endowment fund generates sufficient income to sustain an annual awards program.
2000
FIRST PUBLICATION
Perpetuating Our Posterity: A Blueprint for Excellence preserves EAF’s history and serves as a resource guide for other groups considering entering the field of philanthropy.
2012
$3M IN SCHOLARSHIPS
EAF celebrates 32 years of service, with membership reaching more than 55,000. The Foundation has 222 endowments, of which 137 are capitalized, and has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships and community assistance awards.
2016
FOUNDATION UPDATES
AKA EAF announced Ms. Erika V. Everett as the new EAF Executive Director. The new EAF website was launched during the 67th Boule’ in Atlanta, GA. EAF held is a history making first ever scholarship & awards breakfast fundraiser.
2022
HBCU FOR LIFE
Over $9 million awarded from 2018 – 2022 to over 100 HBCU colleges and universities under the AKA HBCU For Life Program Initiative.
